James at the 2024 Careers Expo

James held his 14th jobs and skills fair on Friday 1st March, with hundreds of jobseekers flocking to the Halesowen Careers Expo at the Cornbow Centre.

Many employers and training providers, such as the National Careers Service, West Midlands Police, the NHS and the British Army, as well as local business like Somers Forge and Lander Automotive, exhibited at the event to talk to local people about the opportunities on offer.

For the second year running, the Careers Expo was run in conjunction between James, Halesowen BID, Halesowen College and Jobcentre Plus, all working together to help those looking for work or training, whilst also helping employers and providers to fill their vacancies.

“Improving access and provision for local jobs and skills is one of my key priorities, and that is why I have held regular jobs & skills fairs ever since becoming an MP in 2010", said James.

“I want to thank all the employers and training providers who joined us on the day, as well as all those who came in search of new opportunities. I hope it was informative and that everyone is left in no doubt of the wide range of courses, apprenticeships and potential careers that are available on our doorstep.

“Working once again with Halesowen BID, Halesowen College and Jobcentre Plus has been a great pleasure, and I want to thank them all for their efforts and helping to ensure the day ran smoothly.”

Vicky Rogers, Manager of Halesowen BID, added, “What a great day. We had people waiting to register as exhibitors set up, and we’ve received some real positive feedback from both businesses and job seekers. Here's hoping some of the connections made come to fruition.”

Julia Robbins, Halesowen Employer Account Manager for Jobcentre Plus, said, “There was a really positive atmosphere, with local residents and people from across the Black County talking to employers about jobs in a range of sectors, including the NHS, engineering, social care, beauty and hospitality.  We also had people on hand to help with the all-important CV, and advise on gaining new skills that employers are looking for. The day was a great success.”

Also commenting, Hayley Edwards, Head of Marketing for Halesowen College, said, “Once again, the jobs and skills fair proved to be a successful event.  It brought together a host of employers and opened up dialogue with people who are seeking job opportunities across the area.  We look forward to working on future events.”

Fighting crime and anti-social behaviour

Thursday, 16 May, 2024
During my 14 years as an MP, crime and anti-social behaviour issues have been one of the most recurrent from constituents.  Everyone has the right to live, work and go about their business free from harm or harassment, and whilst our area is a great place it is not always possible to escape fr
