James cycled 2.71km in five minutes today, as he joined fellow MPs and peers to raise awareness for the 2022 Poppy Appeal in Parliament.
Each parliamentarian taking part cycled for five minutes on a static bike over a ten-hour period, and the event was co-hosted by the Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) and the Royal British Legion (RBL). This year was the sixth annual Poppy Ride.
The RBL’s annual Poppy Appeal began this year on 27th October and will run until Remembrance Sunday on 13th November. James will be taking part in remembrance events across Halesowen & Rowley Regis and will be selling poppies later this week at the Tesco supermarket in Cradley Heath, as well as at Sainsbury’s in Blackheath.
"I enjoyed taking part in the Poppy Ride, which raises awareness for a great cause that is close to many people’s hearts", said James. "The RBL do fantastic work all year round to support our brave servicemen and women and their families, who often spend long periods apart.
"This year I will be attending events to mark Remembrance Sunday as we come together as a nation to remember all those who have fallen in conflict, giving their lives for the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today."
